Sophie Mayo helps menopausal women nurture their brain and gut health. After watching several members of her family face Alzheimer’s, she found hope in science-backed lifestyle changes that transformed her own health. After 30 years in research and consulting, she became certified as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. She now coaches a practical, no-nonsense approach with women ready to take small, powerful steps toward their own sustainable lifestyle. When she is not coaching, you’ll find her cooking plant-based meals, gardening or walking her dogs through the forest in Lyme, New Hampshire.

You have agency over your brain

Alzheimer’s runs deep in my family—my mother, her mother, her siblings, and cousins all faced this heartbreaking disease. When my mother was diagnosed, she was 74 years old. I was in denial at first, then felt powerless being an ocean away. When I realized one day it could happen to me, I started planning how I would end my life.

What gave me hope? Learning that lifestyle and environment play a bigger role than genetics in developing Alzheimer’s. With my own risk looming, I was determined to give my brain a fighting chance. My family embraced a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle, prioritized sleep, moved more, spent more time in nature — and the benefits are incredible: better digestion, weight loss, brighter moods, more focus and a smooth menopause for me.

Inspired by this newly found agency over my brain, I trained at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and became a certified Health Coach. Now, I help women create sustainable habits to befriend and nurture their brain and gut health — and take charge of their future, one small step at a time.

Your Path to Gut and Brain Resilience

3 pillars to improve focus, vitality and energy

B.L.

As a woman in my 60s, I am acutely aware of wanting my next years to be full of vitality and personal meaning. This desire is sharpened by the possibility of cognitive and physical limitations that come with aging. I worked with Sophie over several months to identify goals and create habits that heighten my engagement in daily life, move me toward my priorities, and promote brain/body health. As she supported my efforts through feedback, new ways of doing things, or reframing setbacks as useful insights, Sophie was integral to my moving forward with new focus, energy and supportive habits. It takes time to change the way one lives and without Sophie’s reinforcement, my commitment would have likely wavered. Glad I saw this program through.

P.A.P.

I am so happy to recommend Sophie Mayo and her program, Building Brain Resilience. Over our 12 weeks, Sophie wove together in-depth information about the importance of building a healthy gut microbiome along with sleep, exercise, creativity and more, to create the best environment for my brain, body and emotional well-being. All of this was presented with an “Abundance Mindset” which focused on adding new 'things'; (e.g. food, exercise, ...), rather than simply eliminating the bad. What a wonderful way for me to explore and become delighted with things that left me feeling good. Four months after starting this course I am feeling better and more confident about what I need to do as a 67-yr old woman to live my healthiest life. Sophie’s enthusiasm for what she is teaching is contagious, as can be witnessed by the growing number of healthy seeds and grains in my pantry and refrigerator! Her teaching was backed up by research-based articles and lots of great recipes!! She always met me where I was, willing to answer lots of questions or explore topics that I wanted to know more about. I felt completely supported throughout our time together and as I reviewed all the information she compiled in My Brain/Gut Workbook, I’m psyched to have this reference to turn to again and again. Thank you Sophie!
